EU AI Act — transparency duties now enforceable: Since 2 August 2026 the AI Office and national market surveillance authorities enforce the AI Act, and Article 50 applies directly. Deployers must tell affected people when emotion recognition or biometric categorisation is in use, and label deepfakes and AI-generated text on matters of public interest. Penalties reach €15m or 3% of worldwide turnover, and €35m or 7% for prohibited practices. Affects Tools 1, 6, 7, 8, 10.
EU AI Act Annex III — high-risk deadline confirmed as postponed: Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 (Digital Omnibus on AI), in force 27 July 2026, defers standalone Annex III obligations from 2 August 2026 to 2 December 2027, and Annex I product-embedded systems to 2 August 2028. Companies have a preparation window, not a live obligation — but the Article 5 prohibitions and the Article 50 duties above are unaffected and enforceable today. Affects Tools 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12.
Who supervises what: The AI Office supervises general-purpose AI model providers; national market surveillance authorities supervise everyone else — which is where private security companies sit, as deployers. Affects Tool 9.
CSDDD scope narrowed: Omnibus I (March 2026) raises thresholds to 5,000+ employees and €1.5bn turnover. Member states must transpose by 26 July 2028; the obligations then apply to all in-scope companies from a single date, 26 July 2029. Most smaller PSCs now fall outside direct scope. Affects Tools 9, 12.
Council of Europe AI Convention: Ratified by the EU (15 May 2026) — now a binding international treaty obligation for EU member states. Affects Tools 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12.
